How to type Hawaiian letters such as Kōloa, Līhuʻe, ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi

As we live in Hawaii, we have many chances to type Hawaiian letters such as Kōloa, Kauaʻi. In this article, we will show you how to type Hawaiian letters, especially kahakō and ʻokina.

Method 1. Adding the Hawaiian Language on your computer

If you have chances to often use Hawaiian letters, we recommend adding the Hawaiian language pack. It takes just a few minutes. 

For Windows PC

(1) Install a language pack of Hawaiian

(2) Change the language as Hawaiian

*Shortcut keys to change the language: Window Key + Space Bar

(3) How to type Kahakō

Hold the Right-Alt key while you type vowels. It applies to the uppercase letters.

Right Alt + vowel
Right Alt + e = ē
Right Alt + i = ī
Right Alt + A = Ā

(4) How to type ʻOkina

Hit the apostrophe key.
Kauaʻi

*To type a regular apostrophe, hold the Right-Alt key and hit the apostrophe key.

(3) How to type Kahakō

Hold the Right-Option key while you type vowels . It applies to the uppercase letters.
